Turmeric is a very popular spice used in mainly in Southern Asian cooking. The plant does require some attention to maintain and grow, and it is important to ensure that a set of conditions are met to assist the plant in producing the beautiful root. Firstly, the soil that it is planted in must be well draining, as well as being in a spot that receives 4 hours of partial sunlight per day. As with any rhizome (root plant), waterlogging will affect the plant very negatively and can cause root rot and possibly irreparable damage to the plant. If these conditions are met and maintained, then the turmeric roots should be ready for harvest within 10 months of plantation!
