Galangal is a perennial plant that belongs to the ginger family. It grows up to 2 meters tall and produces long, pointed leaves that are dark green in colour. Galangal takes approximately 3-4 years to mature and produce rhizomes that can be harvested for culinary and medicinal purposes. Galangal requires full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. It thrives in warm and humid climates with temperatures ranging from 25-30°C during the day and 20-25°C at night. It needs regular watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Galangal is commonly grown in Southeast Asia and is used extensively in Thai, Indonesian, and Malaysian cuisine.
