Jackfruit is an extremely large plant that grows enormous green fruits, which are sweet after ripening but are also an extremely popular vegan substitute (before ripe) for pork. A set of conditions must be met to ensure that the plant flourishes. This includes being grown in a tropical location or greenhouse, with no palpable dry season. It should also be grown in areas with an elevation of less than 1000m above sea level to ensure that photosynthesis is not slowed down and must receive at least 1500mm of water per year. If these conditions are met and the tree is planted in nutrient rich soil, then within three to four years of planting, it is sure to produce its’ brilliant fruits!
